Description

Clotrimazole 1% cream is an antifungal treatment effective against a variety of fungal skin infections, including athlete's foot, fungal nappy rash, and fungal sweat rashes. Clotrimazole cream is applied directly to the infected area of the skin, allowing for localised treatment. It is available over the counter and on prescription.

When Clotrimazole is applied to the infected area of skin it works by destroying the fungus or yeast which has caused the infection. It works by damaging the cell membrane of the fungus, preventing it from growing and spreading. When using clotrimazole cream, it is recommended to apply a thin layer to the affected area 2-3 times daily for several weeks, even after the symptoms have cleared. This helps prevent the infection from returning. Its application is straightforward and, in most cases, provides relief from symptoms within a week of consistent use.

Directions

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has prescribed. If you purchased this product without a prescription, please follow these directions closely.

  • If the feet are infected, they should be washed and dried thoroughly, especially between the toes, before applying the cream.
  • Clotrimazole should be applied thinly and evenly to the affected areas, two or three times daily and rubbed in gently.
  • The duration of the treatment depends upon the type of infection. Use the cream for at least two weeks for candida infections or at least one month for other infections.
  • If you have athlete's foot, it may help to use an antifungal dusting powder as well. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend one.
  • The symptoms of skin infection such as itching or soreness should improve within a few days of treatment although signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
